Nashik

Location : 185 km. from Mumbai
Area : 5850 sq. mts.
Altitude : 565 m above sea level

To the north of Maharashtra lies the basin of the mighty Godavari and the territory from Nashik to Nanded the most sacred in Maharashtra.According to mythology, Lord Rama, the king of Ayodhya made Nashik his temporary home during the 14 years of his exile. It is also known for Tarakeshwar where Lord Rama performed his father’s funeral rites. Nashik is also the venue for the ‘Kumbh Mela’. An amazing gathering of devout Hindus that happens once every 12 years. Other Places of interest include Ramkund a holy tank where Lord Ram and Sita used to bathe during their exile.

Places of attraction :-

Muktidam Temple:
Located just 7 kms. from the city near Nashik station the Muktidham temple is pure white. The colour of holiness and peace. The verses of Gita are written on the walls.

Kalaram Temple:
Originally built in 1794 this temple was built with black stone. There is a gold plated copper peak on the temple that stands out be it day or night. Other attractions are Pandavleni Caves Coin Museum Sita Guha and the Kapaleshwar Temple –the oldest in the town.

Trimbakeshwar:
33 kms. West of Nashik lies the tiny village of Trimback. And from a spring high on a steep hill above this village the mighty Godavari emerges. It dribbles into the Gangasagar bathing tank and devotees believe that the sacred waters wash away all the sins.
Legend has it that Gautam Rishi prayed to Lord Shiva on the Brahmagiri hill which rises above the temple. Lord Shiva pleased with his devotion allowed Gautam Rishi to bring the Godavari waters from heaven to earth. Incidentally Trimbak also has the Trimbakeshwar Temple one of India’s mast sacred shrines. It contains the main ‘Jyotirlinga’ among the 12 Jyotirlingas spread across the country.
