Location : 124 kms. from Mumbai
Situated smack in the middle of the busy Mumbai-Pune highway are the
charming hill stations of Lonavala and Khandala. Discovered in 1871
they are located at an altitude of 625 mts. They come into their own
during the monsoons. The clouds envelope the entire townships the
hills get covered by a lush green carpet and the waterfalls cascade
down like pure silver streams. Khandala (124 kms. from Mumbai 70 kms.
from Pune) is separated from Lonavala by 4.5 kms. and a valley on
one hand and a lofty hill on the other. The Duke’s Nose dominates
the skyline. The Kune Falls at the head of the ravine looks its best
during the monsoons. Other places of interest include Tungarli Lake
Rajmachi Point Walvan Dam Tiger’s Leap Kaivalyadham Yoga Centre
Sunset Point Bushy Dam and the Monsoon Lake. Lonavala is also a good
base for exploring the famous Karla and Bhaja caves and the majestic
forts atop the many hills. |
