Dimapur Nagaland’s gateway near the border with Assam derives its
name from the river Dimasa which flows through it. The town was the
capital of Kachari rulers (13th-16th century Hidimbajpur) in the
medieval times and is today an important commercial and trading
center. It has an airport and a railway station which serves as a
nodal point for visiting other places in Nagaland.
It is the railhead and has the only airport in Nagaland. It is a
connected by rail and road to the rest of the country. The Kachari
relics include a huge brick built arch. There are also 30 huge
mushroom shaped monoliths which lie upside down; the origins of
which are unknown .
Fakim Sanctuary and Pulie Badze Park provides a fascinating
opportunity to interact with the wildlife that includes Tigers
hoolock gibbons and the Tragopan Pheasant among others. |
