Dimapur

Kohima | Dimapur

Location : 74 kms. From Kohima
Altitude : 195 mts. above sea level

Dimapur Nagaland’s gateway near the border with Assam derives its name from the river Dimasa which flows through it. The town was the capital of Kachari rulers (13th-16th century Hidimbajpur) in the medieval times and is today an important commercial and trading center. It has an airport and a railway station which serves as a nodal point for visiting other places in Nagaland.

It is the railhead and has the only airport in Nagaland. It is a connected by rail and road to the rest of the country. The Kachari relics include a huge brick built arch. There are also 30 huge mushroom shaped monoliths which lie upside down; the origins of which are unknown .

Fakim Sanctuary and Pulie Badze Park provides a fascinating opportunity to interact with the wildlife that includes Tigers hoolock gibbons and the Tragopan Pheasant among others.
