is Dharmasthala the shrine of Sri Manjunatha. Kadri Caves and Sri
Manjunath Temple are set in attractive gardens now partly an
amusement park for children .The temple dates back to 1068 and its
central image of Lokeshwara is a remarkable bronze. Served by the
Madhava Vaishnava priests this Jain temple has recently installed a
12 mts. Monolith of Bahubali which was erected in 1973 and a museum.
The temple distributes free meals to all visitors. The pilgrims are
also offered accommodation free of charge. During the festival of
Lakshadeepostava 10, 00,000 lamps are lit and pilgrims take a holy
dip in Netravati River 3 kms away. There are a number of Jain bastis
in Dharmasthala. The height of the festival season begins here with
Diwali and includes the three-day Manjunatheshwara Festival in
November. |
