Bandhavgarh National Park (Visiting Season):
The Bandhavgarh National Park nestled in the Vindhya mountain ranges
in central India is well-known for its wide range of wild-life. It
is set in enchanting Sal forests and wooded hills. The
archaeological remains of the Kalchuri period are an added
attraction here.
The National park is dominated by the ancient
Bandhavgarh
Fort, located on a

plateau and reached after a steep climb. The fort
is now in ruins, its monuments and tanks beings gradually reclaimed
by the forest, thus providing additional shelter for wildlife such
as Black Bucks.
There are a number of caves dating back to the prehistoric period.
Some of these caves have inscriptions in oriental scripts. The rich
and varied wild life here includes Tiger, Spotted Deer, Samba,
Barking Deer, Wild Bear and Bison. The first white tiger was found
in nearby forests in 1951. Here in near total seclusion a visitor is
sure to spot a Tiger or Panther or some other wild animal lazing or
slinking in the thick forest.
There are White Tiger Lodges and Forest Rest Houses. Jeeps,
elephants and mini buses can be hired along with guides for viewing
the wildlife. For photography you have to pay separately.
