Aizwal

 
Altitude : 1132 mts.
Location : 506 kms. from Guwahati.

It is Mizoram’s capital city and dominates the area like a citadel. It stands on a high ridge surrounded by deep green valleys and the beautiful high craggy hills of Durtlang and dominates the scenery like a cathedral. It is an ideal hill station with lots of fresh air and solitude. Situated on the central ridge in the middle of the state the capital town of Aizwal dominates the valleys of the rivers Tiwang and Tuirial and their tributaries.

Surrounded by hills Aizwal offers a mild weather throughout the year. The Assam Riffles Centre is an important landmark with the administrative buildings and Raj Bhavan nearby. To the east is the zoo with birds and animals from the surrounding hills. Mizoram’s capital clings to the sides of a central ridge at an altitude of 1130 mts.

Places of attraction :-

Bung and Paikhai:
They are hill stations and adjacent to each other. It will be a day well spent.

Tamdil:
It is natural lake set amidst thick virgin forests. It offers boating facilities.

Vantawans:
The majestic 750 ft. high Vantawans fall is located near the idyllic town of Thenzawl. A thick tropical forest and bamboo groves surround it.

Camphai:
It is located on the extreme corner bordering Myanmar. The hill looks like standing in attention at a military line up from here. Sub-divisions headquarters on the Indo-Myanmar border Champai a bustling commercial town is also a naturalist’s paradise. 5 kms away from Champai is the Ruantlang village where glimpse of the ancestral way of life of the Mizos can still be seen.

Lunglei:
A beautiful hill station rich in flora. It offers quite a feast for the nature lover and is located in Southern Mizoram. This rapidly developing town is excellent base to visit the interiors of south Mizoram.

Dampa Sanctuary:
Established in 1976 in the northwest tip of the Mizo Hills the sanctuary provides accommodation to swamp deer, tiger, leopard, elephant and hoolock gibbon. Human accommodation is available in Government Guest Houses. The best period to visit the sanctuary is November to March orchids, geraniums and balsam.
Foreigners can only obtain a permit if they travel on an organized tour of at least four arranged by a recognized travel agency. For more information contact the Mizoram Government Offices at Circular Road Chanakyapuri New Delhi.

Luangmual Handicrafts Centre:
7 kms away it is a small ridge-top village. The Khumbeu ceremonial bamboo hat is made here using waterproof wild Hnahthial leaves.

Vantawng Water Falls:
Surrounded by lush green tropical forest filled with bamboo grove.

Saiha:
With its picturesque landscape and the Chhimptuipuri river rich in fish Saiha is a paradise for anglers.45 kms from Saiha is the Lake Palak.

Phawngpul Peak:
Literally meaning ‘Blue Mountain’ it is located at a height of 2165 mts. and is the highest peak in Mizoram. Rich in exotic flowers, orchids, medicinal herbs, it is open only to trekkers and hikers.
